The influence of personality, optimism, and hope on psychological well-being in middle school teachers

Abstract

|
It is important to ensure that the role of teachers is very significant. For teachers play their role appropriately and faithfully, their psychological well-being should be considered first. The purpose of this study was to investigate personality, optimism, and hope as predictors of psychological well-being in teachers, seeking ways to increase their psychological well-being. For this study, self-reports data from 296 teachers (67 male teaches, 229 female teachers) of middle school was obtained. The percentage of female teachers (77.4%) was higher than that of male teachers (22.6%) and the average age was 28.3. The instruments included LCSI(Lim¡¯s Character Style Inventory: Lim & Park, 2010), Optimism(Kim, 1995), Hope(Kim, 2004), and Psychological well-beings(Kim et al., 2001). The results of the study were as follows, Self-concept, Prudence and Sociability, which are the sub-types of LCSI, optimism, and hope did affect to psychological well-being. Based on the results, more findings and implications were discussed.
